A Georgia native, Gay Brown and her husband, Dale, moved to the Washington, DC area in 2010, where Gay found herself mentoring and discipling young women as they transitioned from college to professional life to marriage and children. When a young friend shared something difficult from her past and Gay felt like she was “in over her head” and needing to refer this woman to a professional, she recommended a Biblical Counselor from Heart Song Counseling. After their children finished high school and left the nest, Gay asked the Lord, “What’s next?” He began leading her towards what she had been informally doing for years. And so, thirty years after completing her Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Education, Gay went back to school to pursue a Masters in Counseling from Westminster Theological Seminary. She loves nothing more than walking alongside those who are struggling, being a “keeper of their stories” and watching them embrace the freedom that is theirs in Christ!
In early 2023, Gay and Dale thought they were moving full-time to their mountain home in western North Carolina, and went as far as opening a Heart Song Counseling office in Sylva, NC. However, the Lord had other plans for them, and they found a beautiful home on Lake Hartwell, back in their home state of Georgia! Gay sees clients virtually in many time zones. She offers in-person sessions in western North Carolina, occasionally in the Washington, DC area, and will soon expand her practice in Georgia and South Carolina.
Dale and Gay have four amazing adult children, two married, two engaged, who are scattered across the country. More importantly, they have the two most darling grandsons you’ve ever seen, and an English Cream retriever, Tuck, a therapy dog and Gay’s colleague in the counseling room!
When she isn’t counseling, Gay enjoys writing curriculum and devotionals. She loves playing tennis, pickleball and golf, as well as water and snow skiing. A few summers ago, she even learned how to wake surf! Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks!!
